Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on 15th October 1931 to a Tamil Muslim family at Rameswaram in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Family Member of Abdul Kalam:-
His father Jainulabdeen was a boat owner and an imam of a local mosque, his mother Ashimma was a housewife. Abdul Kalam was the youngest of four brothers and sisters in his family.

Education:-
Abdul Kalam Secondary Schooling Schwartz Higher Secondary School & undergraduate from Saint Joseph College. He studied Aerospace Engineering from Madras Institute of Technology in 1960.
Abdul Kalam’s Achievements: -
After completing of his higher education, Abdul Kalam joined the DRDO(Aeronautical Development Establishment of the Defence Research and Development Organisation) as a scientist. Late in the early 1960s, worked with INCOSPAR (Indian National Committee for Space Research) under Vikram Sarabhai a renowned space scientist.
Abdul Kalam started independently working on expandable rocket projects at DRDO. He was the project Director of ISRO ( Indian Space Research Organisation)where he worked as Project Director of SLV-III. India’s first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle, which deployed the Rohini satellite into the Orbit of the earth in the year July 1980.
Kalam’s dedication led to the development of four missile projects namely, Prithvi, Trishul, Akash, and Nag. Due to this contribution, he earned the title “Missile Man of India”
Abdul Kalam has played a valuable role in conducting the Pokhran-II, A series of 5 nuclear test explosions in 1998.

In his professional career, he was associated with ISRO & DRDO.His most significant works include the development of the Indian ballistic missile include the development of the Indian ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology, which earned him the sobriquet “Missile Man of India”. He played a central role in one of India’s most important nuclear tests, Pokharan –II. For his work in science and politics, he was awarded “Bharat Ratna” India’s highest civilian honour.
Dr. Abdul Kalam served as president of the Republic of India from 2002 to 2007:-
As a president, Kalam promoted the advancement of the national nuclear weapons programme. Kalam also devised a 20-year action plan to achieve economic growth through the technological development of India.

11TH President of India: -
Kalam served as the 11th president of India, succeeding K.R. Narayan. He won the 2002 presidential election with an electoral vote of 922884, surpassing the 107366 votes won by Laxmi Sahgal. His term lasted from 25th July 2002 to 25th July 2007.

Death of Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam:-
While Dr Kalam delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, Kalam collapsed and died from an apparent cardiac arrest on 27 July 2015. At the age of 83.
Memorial:-
The Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam National Memorial was built in memory of Kalam by the DRDO in Pai Karumbu, in the island town of Rameswaram; Tamil Nadu. It was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2017.
Dr. Abdul Kalam was ranked 2nd in Outlook India’s poll-The Greatest Indian.
