Shimilipala National park is reflecting the natural beauty scene of Odisha. It is situated in the Mayourbhanja district of Odisha. Previously it was used as the hunting ground of rulers.

 Shimilipala is the largest wildlife sanctuary in India. It is also considered one of the principal tiger projects of India.It is a tiger reserve area in the Maurbhanj district in the Indian the state of ODISHA This park cover nearly 2750sq.km.

 

Shimilipala National Park derives its name from the abundance of red silk cotton trees growing in this area.It was formally designated a tiger reserve in 1956 and under project Tiger in May 1973. The Government of ODISHA declared Similipal a wildlife sanctuary in 1979.

 

This park is a treasure house of 1076 species of plants belonging to 102 families.96 species of orchids have been identified here. The Shimilipala forest have different types of  medicinal and aromatic plants, which provide a source of earnings for the tribal people of Shimilipala.

 

The highest peak of this park is 1165 meters. There are  12 rivers flowing across  the plain area. The prominent among them Budhabalanga river, Kharkai river,& Deo river. The prominent waterfalls are Joradha 181 meters, Barhai 217 meters.

Chilika Wildlife Sanctuary lake is a brackish water lagoon spread over Puri, Khordha & Ganjam districts of Odisha state.On the east coast of India. Chilika is situated at the mouth of the Daya River flowing into the Bay of Bengal. Its total covering area is 1100 square km.

  It is the biggest lake in India. It is the largest saltwater lake in India.The lake is an ecosystem with large fishery resources. It sustains more than 1,50,000 fisherfolk living in 132 villages on the shore of the island. In 1981, Chilika lake was distinguished as the first Indian wetland of international importance under the 

Ramsar Convention.

Chilika wildlife sanctuary is home to various migratory and local birds such as Flamingo, White Bellied Sea eagle, Brahminy Kite, Spot-billed Pelican, Bareheaded Goose, Open billed stork, spoonbill, Brahmuny Duck, Wigeon, Pintail, Ibis, Heron Egret and King Fisher etc.

NandankanaZoological Park is the first zoo in India, with a white tiger safari. This park is 437 hector of the zoo and botanical garden in Bhubaneswar., Odisha. This zoo was established in 1960. It was opened to the public in 1979.

 Nandankana means the garden of Heaven.The zoo is home to about 3517 individual animals representing 166 species, including 67 species of mammals, 81 species of birds, and 18 species of reptiles.

 

Nandankana is the first zoo in the world to breed white tigers and Melanistic tigers. Nandankana is the only conservation breeding centre for Indian Pangolins in the world.

 

Nandankana is the only zoological park in India to become an institutional member 

of the World Associations of Zoos and Aquarium(WAZA).

 

At present, there is 9 white tiger in the zoo, out of which 5 are male and 4 are female white tiger.

Bhitarakanika National Park is 145 square km. Large national park in the northeast of Kendrapara district in Odisha in eastern India. It was designated on 16th September 1998.

Bhitarkanika wildlife sanctuary is spread over 672square km.This national park is the home of Saltwater crocodiles, Indian Python, King Kobra, Black Ibis, and many other species of flora and fauna.

 Bhitarakanika is one such location of rich, lush green vibrant ecosystem lying in the estuarine region of Brahmini-Baitarani in the Northeastern corner of Kendrapara district of ODISHA.

 

It is the second-largest viable mangrove ecosystem in India. It has 672square km of forest and wetland provides home to well over 215 birds including winter migrants from central Asia and Europe.

 

This park is the home to the saltwater crocodile, Indian python, black ibis, wild boar, rhesus monkey, chital, darter, cobra, monitor lizard nest on Gharmatha and nearby beaches.

 

It is a very good place to sight the giant saltwater crocodile, some growing to 23 feet in length, along with other reptiles like the water monitor Lizard and king cobra. Eight varieties of Kingfisher are found in this area. Bhitarakanika is located about 166 Km from Bhubaneswar

he Debrigarha wildlife sanctuary is located in the Bargarh district in the state of Odisha. This sanctuary covers a total area of 346.91square km. It is situated near Sambalpur Hirakud Dam.

 

The Debrigarha sanctuary is an important location for the conservation of various local wildlife.Over 40 species of reptiles, 12 species of amphibians and 42 species of fishes 85 species of butterflies and 38 species of spiders have been living in this sanctuary.

KapilasaWild life sanctuary is situated in the Dhenkanal district of Odishastate in India.It is spread across 125.5 square kilo metres. This wildlife sanctuary gotdesignated on 2nd April 2011.

 Itwas declared an Eco-sensitive Zone ( ESZ)by the Ministry of Environment &Forest.The Government of ODISHA declared its interest in developingKapilasha into a tourist hub in 2016.

 

 Ecocottage and boating facilities will be the first to be introduced as apart of ecotourism. It is nearly 85 km from Bhubaneswar. There is apresence of 45 elephants in this sanctuary, apart from elephants, jungle cats,sloth bears, hyenas, jackals, wild pigs, spotted deer, barking deer, hares,Mongoose, giants, and squirrels, porcupines, and monkeys are regularly seen inthis sanctuary.

There are several cavesin this sanctuary which house of variety of bats for nesting. apart fromvarieties of scorpions are also seen here.

 The famous, jeronda Gadi known forthe followers of the Mahima cult whoworship” Sunya Brahma” or shapelessLord is very close to the KapilashaWildlife sanctuary of Odisha.
