Google in the year of October 2019, with the help of NASA, became the first to claim “AI QUANTUM to have achieved quantum supremacy. Google describe that, by performing calculations on the Sycamore quantum computer more than 3,00,000 times faster than they could be done on Summit. It is considered as the the world’s fastest computer.

In December 2020, a group at  USTC implemented a type of Boson sampling on 76 photons with a photonic quantum computer Jiuzhang to demonstrate quantum supremacy.

On November 2021, at the quantum computing summit, IBM presented a 127 –qubit microprocessor named IBM-Eagle.

The Quantum computer is a type of computer that uses quantum machines so that it can perform certain kinds of computation more efficiently than a regular computer can.

How do Quantum computers operate?

Quantum computers operate by manipulating quantum(qubits), which are the most basic unit of quantum information. Unlike classical bits, which can only be a 0 or a 1, qubits can exist in multiple states simultaneously known as superposition.

This enables them to process much more complex data than classical computers. Quantum computers are programmed using quantum algorithms, which are mathematical procedures used to solve complex problems using quantum computers.

What are the basic concepts of Quantum Computers:-

Quantum computers began as theoretical concepts in the year 1980s.but the first quantum computer was not built till the year 2000. The first working quantum computer was built by a Canadian company called D-Wave systems in the year 2011.

Since then the quantum computer has made great strides in terms of the development of the application. Many of the world’s companies such as Google, IBM, and Microsoft have made a significant investments in quantum computing research and development.

Today quantum computers are being used to solve complex problems in a wide range of fields including health care, finance, and material science.

A new generation of computer technology is on the horizon, which many think will eventually increase the computing power available to humanity by factors of thousands or possibly even millions.

Quantum computer  vastly increase the speed  of the processor at which we can carry out many vital tasks, such as discovering and testing new drugs or understanding the impact of climate change of the world..

The Quantum computer is following a different set of rules. It is not using ZERO OR ONES like classical computers are bits or bytes. But it can work with something called “Qubits”.

Quantum computers are machines that are used the properties of  Quantum Physics to store data and perform computations. This can be extremely advantageous for certain tasks where they could vastly outperform our best supercomputers.

In the  Quantum computer, the basic unit of memory is a quantum bit or qubit. The Qubits are made using physical systems, such as the spin of an electron or the orientation of a photon. These systems can be many different arrangements all at once, a property known as Quantum Superposition.

Qubits can also be inextricably linked together using a phenomenon called quantum entanglement. The result is that a series of qubits can represent different things simultaneously.

In classical computers, 8 bits is enough to represent any number between 0 and 255. But in Quantum computer 8 qubits are to represent every number between 0 and 255 at the same time. A few hundred entangled of qubits would be enough to represent more numbers than there are atoms in the universe.

This is where  Quantum computers get their edge over  more powerful than classical  computers ones. In a situation where there are a large number of possible combinations, quantum computers can consider them simultaneously.

Quantum computers are very highly sensitive, heat, electromagnetic fields and collisions with air molecules , which can cause a qubit to lose its quantum properties in the processor. This process, known as quantum decoherence, causes the system to crash and it happens more quickly the more particles that are involved.


The future of quantum computers:-

Quantum computing now has the potential to capture nearly $700 billion in value as early as 2035, with the market estimated to exceed $90 billion annually by 2040. Quantum computing will be more powerful computers one day pose a cyber security risk.

At an automatic level, quantum computing simulates nature and therefore could help us to find new materials or identify new chemical compounds for drug discovery. It holds the promise of being able to take on problems that could take a normal computer billion of years to solve and do in seconds.

The quantum computer can perform several tasks at the same time, which allows for significantly faster results than classic computers, especially in the area of research and development.
